Our Journey

Sincere Vision, Committed team and a great location

Founders

The Rock Climbing School at Bhongir came into being on 6th September, 2013. It was founded by Shri Shekhar Babu Bachinepally and Shri Parmesh Kumar. Shekhar Babu is a distinguished mountaineer, who has climbed multiple above 8000mtr mountains including Mount Everest, for which he was awarded the ‘Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award’ by the President of India. Parmesh is a professional outdoorsman, whose career has spanned over 25 years in the field of rock climbing, mountaineering and other allied adventure sports.

How it started

The concept of a professional Rock Climbing School was conceived with a vision to nurture the spirit of adventure in the Telugu states. After an extensive recce of many locations in the state, the monolithic rock structure situated in Bhongir was identified. The rock in its natural formation has all the features to suit every level of training. The founders invited various internationally acclaimed rock climbers for a site visit and finally concluded that the Bhongir Rock will be the ideal place for a climbing school. The proposal given to the Government was immediately cleared for execution. When the project was inaugurated, the first program conducted was a 1-Day Orientation Course for the local schools in Bhongir followed by a free program for the youth of the town, which was received with great excitement.

Early success

Poorna Malavath, the youngest girl in the world to climb Mount Everest, was trained at Rock Climbing School, Bhongir. Her stupendous achievement inspired many more institutions, from public and private sector, to make their students attend courses at our school. A few notable public institutions who continue to be our long-standing clients are Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society and Telangana Minority Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society. The Aga Khan Academy, Oakridge International School, Sherwood Public School and many more private schools have availed our courses.

Our achievements

Since its inception, the school has trained over 7,000 people in various levels of rock climbing. Our students went on to summit some of the highest mountains of the world. So far, we have trained 52 people to summit Mt. Everest, over 100 have summited Mt. Kilimanjaro and in excess of 200 people have summited various mountains in India and across the world.

The school has also been part of popular culture by being featured in various movies. The biopic ‘Poorna’ based on the life of Poorna Malavath was shot on the premises of Rock Climbing School. For India’s biggest movie of the time ‘Bahubali’, the entire technical training for the climbing sequences was given by the team from Rock Climbing School.

The school continues its journey by providing courses and activities for people coming from all walks of life. And we strive to become a paradigm of an institution related to Adventure Sports.
